True Sports Stories With Film Adaptations

Remember those heart-pumping moments when your favourite team is on the brink of losing? Then, as if by a miracle, they manage clinch victory. Some of you may believe that these dramatic scenes only happen in movies, but these flicks that were based on true sports stories will definitely change your mind.

  • Invictus

A heart-warming story about how football can unite even a torn nation, Invictus captured the hearts of viewers around the world. This was based on John Carlin’s book Playing the Enemy: Nelson Mandela and the Game that Changed a Nation and starred Morgan Freeman as President Mandela and Matt Damon as the Springbok team captain Francois Pienaar. The film was directed by Clint Eastwood and was one of the largest big screen projects to be shot in South Africa. After its release in 2009, it hit the box office and gained positive reviews from top critics.

  • Miracle

Based on the United States men’s hockey team’s victory in an amazing 4-3 upset against the favoured Soviet Union in the 1980 Winter Olympics, Miracle starred Kurt Russell as Coach Herb Brooks. In the final ten minutes of the game, an excited crowd watched as the Americans held off the Soviets, making it one of the biggest upsets in history. It was also in this event that commentator Al Michaels uttered his now famous line, “Do you believe in miracles? Yes!”

  • Seabiscuit

Now who says that a horse cannot be a hero? This 2003 drama film about the American legend, Seabiscuit, is an often overlooked racing horse that made big waves in the United States during his career in the 1930s. Despite many challenges and injuries, the legendary hero horse went on to win the Triple Crown and Horse of the Year titles in 1938. Tobey Maguire plays the role of Red Pollard in this story about courage, determination, and spirit.

With these inspirations, engaging in sports will never be a bad idea. Who knows, you could be the next legend, right? You can start with cycling and team up with Dave Rayner Cycle Sport for your repairs and other needs.
